Areva-Siemens Consortium who is building the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant unit under a fixed price turnkey contract has informed that it is planning to focus efforts on the OL3 site on urgent design tasks, which are the most critical to the project. In this context the plant supplier is planning to reduce the number of subcontractors and work staff on the construction site.

- We now expect Areva to provide us with a detailed clarification concerning the planned changes and focus areas. At this stage we cannot evaluate how the plans might impact in overall schedule. We have not yet received the requested clarification for the schedule of the project. We think that the schedule should be finalized before the decisions of the resources at the plant site are done, says Mr. Jouni Silvennoinen, who is responsible for the OL3 project at TVO.

- Efficiency needs to be improved on the construction site and efforts should be intensified on tasks that are critical to the schedule, such as engineering, I&C design and the start of I&C tests, Silvennoinen says.

The main thing is to ensure that the OL3 nuclear power plant unit is completed without additional delays and as soon as possible. The plant supplier must present an explicit plan for the remaining work.

The plant supplier who is building the plant unit under a fixed-price turnkey contract is responsible for the schedule of the project.
