Global Genes Project will educate viewers about rare disease resources on special show dedicated to Rare Disease Day as part of the “Behind the Mystery: Rare and Genetic Diseases” series

(Pompano Beach, FL – CISION – December 30, 2013) – Popular show The Balancing Act® airing on Lifetime TV welcomes Global Genes Project -- a leading patient advocacy group in the rare disease world --to the show as part of a special dedicated to Rare Disease Day on February 28, 2014.

The segment, “Navigating the Rare Disease World” will air as part of the ongoing “Behind the Mystery: Rare and Genetic Diseases” series produced by The Balancing Act.

Rare and Genetic diseases affect 1 in 10 Americans and 300 million people worldwide. Over 7,000 distinct rare diseases exist and approximately 80 percent are caused by faulty genes. A representative for Global Genes Project will talk about their mission of raising rare disease awareness, research and education (R.A.R.E), building and unifying the rare community and resources available for all in the rare disease world.

“We are proud to be partnering again with Global Genes for this special, which will help demystify what rare and genetic diseases are. With only 1 in 10 people diagnosed, chances are you know someone or may even BE someone with a rare disease, so it’s our hope to connect people with the support they are looking for,” said Carri Levy, Senior Associate Producer, the Balancing Act.
