Four out of five cars choose HERE for maps
Berlin – With satellite navigation increasingly considered essential, the majority of European and North American manufacturers choose maps from HERE, with four out of five new cars using the highly accurate data as a key part of their navigation systems.
Every three seconds a new car is fitted with a HERE map, equating to more than 10 million new cars a year. With customers including BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Toyota, HERE sets itself apart from rivals by providing wide coverage, high levels of accuracy and access to real-time information.
HERE develops maps for nearly 200 countries worldwide, meaning that manufacturers can use a single component for all markets, reducing cost and development time. To ensure accuracy, HERE makes millions of changes to its map data base every day. Its systems also receive real-time traffic information in more than 40 countries including the UK, as well as provide detailed live information such as parking availability and weather.
Today the world’s leading car makers race to develop connected and autonomous vehicle technology for which highly precise maps are a vital component. HERE vehicles for highly accurate HD mapping capture billions of 3D points to model the surface of the road to an accuracy of 10-to-20 centimetres. As a result HERE is currently working with ten leading automotive companies on automated driving projects.
Floris van de Klashorst, VP Connected Driving, HERE, said: “It’s a testament to the quality of HERE that we continue to be the first choice for car makers when it comes to maps and location technology. As cars get increasingly connected, they not only leverage the world’s most precise map data that we collect, but also our location cloud, providing always fresh and seamless navigation experiences inside and outside of the car. Our intelligent mapping technology has never been more crucial.”
