Denby Transport has taken delivery of six new DAF XF tractor units, which are part of an order of 10 new Euro 6 DAF trucks.

The decision to invest in new DAFs was made after a demonstrator joined the fleet for two weeks. While a relatively short trial period, Peter Denby, Managing Director of Denby Transport, explained his decision was founded on a long and successful working relationship with DAF: “Due to the operational demands of our business, we do not have months to test and trial new vehicles. We have run DAFs in our fleet for many, many years and we trust in them as a company and as a product”.

The Lincoln-based specialist haulier has opted for DAF FTG XF 460 6x2 tractors equipped with steering mid-lift axles, each with Super Space cab and AS Tronic gear box. As an international haulier, Denby Transport’s drivers spend a lot of time away from home, so the high level of driver comfort afforded by the Super Space Cab was an important consideration for Denby Transport.

Peter Denby explained that choosing DAF is decision based on more than product however: “When it comes to back-up and international breakdown response DAF have been market leaders for decades, they are head and shoulders above the competition. And perhaps most importantly, a big part of why we choose DAF is the support we get from our local dealer Ford & Slater”.

Ford & Slater are the largest independent DAF dealership group in the United Kingdom with ten sites throughout Central and Eastern England. For Peter Denby, Ford & Slater make up a big part of the overall DAF offer, “The DAF product has always been very good. But it is the product coupled with the dealer that makes DAF great”.

With its new Euro 6 line up, DAF has attempted to not just meet the new emissions legislation but to make these vehicles their best product line up ever in terms of reliability, performance and driver comfort. So what does Peter Denby and his team make of the new vehicles? “Once again we have made a good decision in choosing DAF. We are very pleased with the fuel economy, achieving an average of 9mpg so far in the new vehicles. Our drivers are very happy too and they rate DAF as the best cab on the market.”

All ten vehicles will be in service by the end of 2014 and this latest order means that more than half of the Denby Transport fleet of forty vehicles will now be DAF.
