Yamaha Guitars History book inducted into National Library of Japan

Yamaha have confirmed that 'The History of Yamaha Guitars' reference book authored by Marl Kasulen and published worldwide by Hal Leonard has been inducted into Japan's National Library.

The book, first published in 2006 remains the most authoritative book on Yamaha Guitars to date, it charts the development of the range from the development of the first acoustic prototype in the 1940's through to today's most iconic and pioneering acoustic, semi-acoustic and electro-acoustic electric guitars and electric basses.

The invitation to join the permanent collection of the National Diet Library demonstrates the cultural significance of the book to Japanese society and recognises its role in Japan's cultural heritage.

British Guitar legends to feature heavily in the book include John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page whilst Bob Marley, Paul Simon, Carlos Santana, Nathan East and Frank Gambale play a prominent role in demonstrating Yamaha guitar development and production.

The book devotes a chapter to a little known project describing how John Lennon's 'Dragon' guitar came into existence. So impressed was Lennon with a custom acoustic that Yamaha had produced for Paul Simon that during a holiday to Japan in 1977 he met with Yamaha craftsmen in his hotel suite to make suggestions on how this model could be modified for his personal 'sound'. John Lennon settled on the CJ52 as the basis for his design and outlined an ambitious suggestion for the look of the instrument with a intricate inlay using the traditional Japanese art of Maki-e. After several meetings Yamaha produced the instrument to John's request and it remains the most expensive acoustic guitar ever produced by Yamaha's custom shop and is now on display at the John Lennon museum in Tokyo.
