UT Arlington named to “Sustainable 16” in March Madness tournament for environmental academics
The University of Texas at Arlington today announced that it has been selected as a finalist of the “Sustainable 16,” a group of sixteen colleges and universities that demonstrate excellence in environmental and sustainability academics.
“As centers of change, innovation and progress, universities and colleges are well-poised to take the lead on sustainability,” said Meghna Tare, director of the UT Arlington Office of Sustainability. “By adopting good environmental practices, not only can campuses reduce their own environmental impact, but also serve as role models for their larger communities.”
The first-ever national tournament for environmental and sustainability academic excellence is sponsored by Enviance Inc., a global provider of environmental solutions that measure, manage, report and reduce environmental and regulatory risks, and Environmental Leader, the leading daily trade publication for energy, environmental and sustainability news.
The winning schools were selected by a group of distinguished environmental science professionals who will determine 2012’s National Environmental Studies Champion on April 2.
“The University of Texas at Arlington is actively engaged in greening facility operations, promoting innovative research, supporting and encouraging student initiatives, implementing environmentally and sustainability focused curriculum, and sponsoring public service initiatives,” Tare added.
The sustainability champion will win $5,000 for that university’s environmental and sustainability department.
