Moelven Edanesågen increases capacity with continuous kiln from Valutec

As part of its efforts to gradually increase capacity, Moelven Edanesågen in Värmland has invested in a continuous kiln, with associated Valmatics control system, from Valutec. Installation of the kiln will begin in January 2016, and it will increase drying capacity at the plant by 40,000 m3 per year.

We are constantly working to improve, and we felt that there was a bottleneck within our timber drying activities. We have a long-standing partnership with Valutec and we have been highly satisfied with their service. So, when faced with this investment, we chose the competitive option offered to us by Valutec,” says Jörgen Olofsson, CEO of Moelven Edanesågen.

The new continuous kiln is a 2-zone FB kiln, in which drying takes place in two separate zones. The first zone provides quicker humidifying, which reduces the risk of dry cracks at the input end. The second zone acts as an equalisation zone and reduces moisture distribution.

The kiln is constructed from stainless steel and will be a fully-equipped turnkey delivery, which means that it has pressure frames and a heat recovery system, among other features. Installation will commence in January 2016 and the kiln is planned to be in production by mid May.

“It’s a great feeling to have been entrusted with another assignment for Edanesågen. Being able to contribute to their capacity increase and development feels hugely satisfying,” says Jon Lindberg, Sales Manager at Valutec.

Edanesågen in Värmland has a long and rich history that has been preserved, in parallel with long-term development and modernisation measures. At present, operations consist of one sawmill, two planing lines, one facility for pressure impregnation and production lines for planing and surface treatment of mouldings.

“It has been really interesting to follow Edane’s progress over the years, from being a family sawmill to becoming part of the Moelven group. It will be just as exciting to follow their future development work,” says Jon.
