Vattenfall’s wind farm project Horns Rev 3 is pushing ahead. The announcement of MVOW as the preferred supplier of V164-8 MW turbines marks an important milestone in the development of this 400 MW offshore wind project.

We are very pleased to be able to appoint MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as preferred supplier of turbines for Horns Rev 3, and look forward working jointly on realizing our firm belief of cost reduction in the offshore wind sector, says Gunnar Groebler, Head of Vattenfall Wind Power.

The concession agreement with the Danish government states that the wind farm should be operational by January 1st 2020 and today’s announcement combined with the soon to come geotechnical investigations on site and procurement of foundations and cables assures that Vattenfall stays on track towards this deadline, says Gunnar Groebler.

Horns Rev 3 will contribute to Denmark’s and EU goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 2020. Offshore, Vattenfall owns 60 % of the wind farm Horns Rev 1, 80 wind plants, and are currently building, together with Stadtwerke Munchen, two offshore wind farms in the German part of the Nordic Sea: DanTysk (in operation) and Sandbank. Besides that, Vattenfall are building the wind farm Kentish Flats Extension in the UK.
In total, Vattenfall owns approximately 1800 MW, of which 1000 MW are offshore.
