Burlington, Wisconsin Glass Container Manufacturing Plant Earns Industry Endorsement

MUNCIE, Ind. and BURLINGTON, Wis. [September 24, 2012] Verallia North America, one of the leading glass container manufacturers for the food and beverage industries in the United States with 13 facilities, recently received its third ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management Systems certification. The company holds current ISO 22000:2005 certifications at its Henderson, N.C., Lincoln, Ill., and most recently, Burlington, Wis., production facilities. Earning awards for quality, safety and innovation is central to Verallia North America’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. To that end, the company is actively pursuing ISO 22000:2005 certifications at additional sites across the country, including Dolton, Ill., and Ruston, La.

Verallia North America received official notice of endorsement from the International Organization for Standardization after spending nearly one year preparing the 47-year old, 636,000 square foot Burlington plant and its 345 employees for the final third-party ISO audit. The initiative included employee training, operational process refinement and ISO-recognized procedural documentation. The Burlington site produces more than two million glass containers, glass bottles and glass jars, each day for some of the largest consumer brands in the food, beverage and beer categories. The ISO designation demonstrates that the glass container manufacturing facility can meet the market’s most stringent specifications for food safety, purity and quality.

“The FBS management team would like to congratulate and thank the Burlington employees for achieving ISO 22000:2005 certification and for their commitment to food safety and continuous improvement,” said Phil McPherson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Verallia North America’s Food, Beverage and Spirits Sector, which oversees the Burlington location. “By achieving ISO 22000:2005 certification, it further demonstrates our commitment to our customers, facilities and employees.”

Verallia North America has a dedicated team that is responsible for helping the company pursue and maintain the industry’s most rigorous third-party accreditations and endorsements. Earning respected international awards and certifications has been integral to Verallia North America’s success and puts it in good company with other highly accountable organizations in the global food supply chain, including those involved in production, processing, packaging, distribution, storage and handling of food and food ingredients. In addition to ISO certifications, some of Verallia North America’s facilities hold the ENERGY STAR® Plant Certification. Other notable industry credentials include the ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence Award, which was earned by Verallia North America and its parent company, Saint-Gobain, in 2012.
