50 Vicon T160 cameras and Vicon Blade 2 enable cutting-edge character realism for Xbox One exclusive, Ryse: Son of Rome

Oxford, UK, 5 December 2013 -- Vicon, the motion capture technology specialists for the entertainment, defence, life sciences and engineering industries and The Imaginarium, today announced that Vicon’s T-Series motion capture cameras were behind the outstanding character realism in new game Ryse: Son Of Rome.

Ryse: Son of Rome is a third-person action adventure developed by Crytek and published by Microsoft Studios as an Xbox One exclusive launch title. The story is described as ‘an epic tale of revenge, spanning an entire lifetime’ with the visual effects universally praised for realism. Nick Cowen said in a Ryse: Son of Rome review for Computer and Video Games: ‘Visually, Ryse is something close to awe-inspiring’.

The Imaginarium, a London-based studio, integrated the T160 cameras with Blade 2 – Vicon’s innovative data capture and data processing software. The developers ran the real-time Blade solution in Crytek’s proprietary game development solution CRYENGINE, using the in-game assets to supply the highest quality visualisation possible for the creation of the game and its characters.

Vicon's high-resolution cameras have enabled us to capture large volumes of highly detailed performance, be it dynamic stunt effects or nuanced drama scenes. Using Blade 2 we were able to offer Crytek the most faithful real-time visualisations of their performers yet,’ said Rich Holleworth, CTO, The Imaginarium Studios.

He continued: ‘The Maturity of Vicon's T-Series hardware and innovation with Axiom have proved a very powerful combination to enable our clients - and our own – next-generation storytelling.’

Imogen Moorhouse, CEO, Vicon commented: ‘All 15 hero characters were given full performance capture with the same detail as the lead character, Marius. This is a great example of the flexibility, accessibility and performance that studios of any size can now access and the ambitious creativity that can be achieved as a result.’
