Today, Michaela Fletcher, Municipal Executive Board Chairman in Österåker and Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam, officially turned the first sod for Wallenstam’s new production in Österåker, north east of Stockholm. The first project to start is Norrgårdshusen with 128 rental apartments that are expected to be ready for occupation in 2019. Later this year, start of construction is planned of a further about 300 apartments at Söraskolan.

“We are very much looking forward to help provide more rental apartments in Österåker, which is one of the country’s fastest growing municipalities and a new one for us as an urban developer. Norrgårdshusen with 128 apartments will be our first new construction project here and later this year we hope to be able to start new construction of about 300 apartments at Söraskolan,” says Hans Wallenstam, CEO of Wallenstam.

The 128 apartments will be built along Norrgårdsvägen and spread among three main buildings, each containing four to six floors. All the apartments will have a balcony or patio and each building will consist of two structures that will be located “back to the back” with a glazed stairwell between them. A café is planned on the ground floor of one of the buildings, which will ensure a lively ground floor atmosphere and a pleasant meeting place for residents and visitors to the area.

“It is good news that Wallenstam is establishing in Österåker and thereby will help provide more housing and increased competition for the benefit of everyone,” says Michaela Fletcher, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board.

The architect’s office for Norrgårdshusen is Sjögren Arkitekter. Apart from the 128 apartments ranging in size from studio to two bedrooms, a garage is also being built with 45 parking spaces and a cycle park. The apartments will be allocated via the Stockholm Housing Agency, Wallenstam’s own queue for new production and some of the apartments will be allocated via Armada, Österåker Municipality’s housing company, from their own queue.
