SALAZAR ANCHORS WILMERHALE’S NEWLY-PLANNED DENVER, COLORADO OFFICE

(Washington, DC) June 6, 2013 – WilmerHale is pleased to announce that former Interior Secretary and US Senator Ken Salazar is joining the law firm as a partner. He will anchor WilmerHale’s newly-planned Denver office.

“We are delighted to welcome Secretary Salazar to WilmerHale. Ken is the rare combination of a highly-skilled lawyer and national political figure who has served at the highest levels of both the executive and legislative branches of government,” said WilmerHale Co-Managing Partner Robert Novick. “As an Interior Secretary, United States Senator and State Attorney General, Ken adds to the firm’s rich tradition of lawyers who have served at the highest levels of government. He will fit seamlessly into WilmerHale.” He added that “With his deep roots in Colorado, Ken will spearhead WilmerHale’s new Denver office, extending WilmerHale’s reach into a region with vibrant energy, natural resources, technology and financial sectors.”

At WilmerHale, Secretary Salazar will provide legal, strategic and policy advice to national and international clients, particularly on matters at the intersection of law, business and public policy, a core strength of WilmerHale. He will draw on his deep experience in energy, environment and natural resources, and tribal issues to assist the firm’s clients.

“I am proud to join WilmerHale, one of the nation’s top law firms. It handles some of the most complex legal matters, and has a long-standing commitment to public service, civil rights and social justice,” said Secretary Salazar. “I look forward to leading WilmerHale’s entry into the Rocky Mountain region, which is integral to the growing national and global economy.”

Secretary Salazar, a Colorado native, served as United States Secretary of the Interior from 2009 to 2013 and represented Colorado in the United States Senate from 2004 to 2008. Before his election to the US Senate, he served as Colorado Attorney General from 1999 to 2004. He served as executive director of Colorado’s Department of Natural Resources from 1987 to 1994. In addition, Secretary Salazar practiced law for 11 years at two of Denver’s top law firms.

As Secretary of Interior, Salazar helped create and implement the nation’s energy strategy including the focus on responsible development of conventional and renewable energy resources. Salazar also led the nation’s wildlife, land and water conservation efforts including the creation of America's Great Outdoors.

As United States Senator, Salazar served on the Energy and Natural Resources, Finance and Ethics Committee. He helped create the most important energy legislation in modern American history in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

And as Colorado Attorney General, Salazar oversaw thousands of civil and criminal cases including numerous matters before the Colorado Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Salazar was awarded the Profiles in Courage Award by his fellow Attorneys General for his efforts in upholding the rule of law.

Secretary Salazar holds a B.A. from Colorado College and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.
