Security thought-leader Corey Nachreiner named to key chief technology officer role; former SafeNet marketing head, Michelle Welch, joins as new marketing VP

LONDON – 21 May, 2015 – With the worldwide cyber security market expected to grow from £61.7 billion in 2014 to £100.5 billion by 2019 (with a CAGR of 10.3 per cent),[i] WatchGuard Technologies, a global leader in multi-function firewalls, is aggressively strengthening its executive leadership team. The company is excited to announce that Corey Nachreiner has been promoted to chief technology officer, and Michelle Welch, former vice president of marketing at data protection market leader SafeNet, will now lead worldwide marketing.

“WatchGuard has had an excellent reputation as a market leader in network security, which has received several accolades from the industry in the last 12 months, including recently being named the recommended UTM product in a group test by SC Magazine,” said Prakash Panjwani, chief executive officer at WatchGuard.” As I step into my new role as CEO, I’m focused on building a leadership team that will continue to push product excellence, further enhance our service and commitment to our channel partners, while seeking opportunities to expand into new markets. Corey and Michelle share that same vision and bring significant experience in executing on it, allowing us to continue our growth momentum in 2015 and beyond.”

Recognised as a thought leader in IT security, Nachreiner will spearhead WatchGuard’s technology vision and direction, thought leadership, and advance WatchGuard’s security research, while being a high-value resource for our customers and partners. Previously, he was the director of strategy and research at WatchGuard. Nachreiner has operated at the frontline of cyber security for 16 years, and for nearly a decade has been evaluating and making accurate predictions about information security trends. As an authority on network security and internationally quoted commentator, Nachreiner’s expertise and ability to dissect complex security topics makes him a sought after speaker at forums such as Gartner, Infosec and RSA. He is also a regular contributor to leading publications including CNET, Dark Reading, eWeek, Help Net Security, Information Week and Infosecurity, and delivers WatchGuard’s “Daily Security Byte” video on Facebook.

Welch has been named WatchGuard’s VP of marketing and is responsible for the development, execution and organisation of the company’s global marketing strategy. She was previously head of worldwide marketing at one of the world’s largest information security companies, SafeNet, and helped position the company for its $890 million acquisition by Gemalto (Euronext: GTO). During her time at SafeNet, she transformed the company’s branding as a leader in data protection, built a strong interactive marketing platform, and was key to centralising the company’s aggressive channel marketing strategy and empowering partners. Prior to her role as VP, she served in a variety of product, field, sales operations and corporate marketing leadership roles and brings more than 11 years of B2B marketing experience to WatchGuard.
