Surge in demand for 2021 holidays as lockdown Britons look forward to a break

LOCKDOWN Britons keen to have a break to look forward to after coronavirus restrictions are eased has led to a surge in demand for 2021 holidays.

A combination of people opting to defer their 2020 summer holidays to 2021, and others planning a getaway next year to make up for lost time, means availability for some destinations is already limited.

Claire Milby and Lisa Barnes who co-own Travel The Globe, based in Barrow and Ulverston, have been working from home throughout the lockdown to ensure customers who have queries about this year’s holidays, or want to book for 2021, are looked after.

Claire said: “We have been working tirelessly six days a week from home ever since lockdown began to make sure we are here to help customers.

“We want to help the community through this and we are maintaining exactly the same level of service to our customers that they would have if we were in our offices.”

Spain, the Canary Islands, New York, Orlando and cruises all around the world are the most popular holiday packages being booked by Travel The Globe customers for 2021.

Claire said: “With a lot of people moving their holiday booking to next year - and keeping their deposits - and others deciding that they need a break to look forward to - availability is already limited for some holidays.”

Where people have opted to have a refund on a holiday, those payments have started to filter through for some customers.

Claire said: “Due to the unprecedented amount of refunds it was always going to take tour operators some time to deal with those. Those have started to come through to us now and we have been able to start paying out refunds to some people. We thank everyone for their patience.

Many people have chosen to defer to next year so that they still have a holiday to look forward to. Others want to secure a holiday now at the right price and have the pick of what’s available. We are here to help, and only a phone call away, whatever option people want to take.”
