Luxury fair puts the sparkle back in Christmas

Christmas shoppers will be able to enjoy Surrey’s most luxurious festive fair this October, if they just go back to school. Parkside School in Stoke D’Abernon, Cobham, Surrey, abandoned the idea of running a normal school fete last year to create a smaller version of the sophisticated fairs you usually have to travel into London to attend. The Fair, on 21 October, is organised by Imogen Jamieson, an expert in antiques and decorative items, who usually exhibits at events run by the likes of Country Living. She brings together some of her colleagues from these fairs and other specialist producers and retailers and they all set up shop in the school’s beautiful and historic halls. Imogen, whose children Edward, eleven, and Charlie, eight, attend the school said: “This may be austerity Britain but you can still enjoy a sumptuous, sophisticated Christmas thanks to Parkside’s Sparkling Fair. It was such a special evening last year and we are blessed by a wonderful, atmospheric venue – just what you need to get into the festive spirit. But, most importantly, we have some truly excellent exhibitors attending so this is the one Christmas shopping event people can’t afford to miss.” Visitors will be tempted by Christmas puddings, ladies clothes and accessories, handmade jewellery from Sophie Jones, Heyland & Whittle toiletries, Jeni Wren cookware and much more. As Parkside is a boys’ school, there will be plenty of boys’ toys as well as gifts for girls. Hungry visitors can visit the cheese expert or sample handmade chocolates from the fair’s specialist chocolatier. The Sparkling Fair is open to all – not just families who have children at the school. Entry is £5 and includes a complimentary drink – sparkling, naturally! All entry fees and proceeds, including contributions from stallholders who are paying to exhibit, will again be divided amongst the school and other good causes. The fair will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday, 21 October 2010 at Parkside School.
