OXO ‘stock’ up on PET jars from Graham Packaging

YORK, PENNSYLVANIA, USA―Premier Foods has launched its latest OXO innovation—Reduced Salt Stock Granules in a PET container from Graham Packaging’s Chalgrove Plant in the United Kingdom.

Premier Foods required a lightweight, square container in line with OXO’s iconic “cube” branding look. “We were tasked with producing a translucent amber jar which matched OXO’s Concentrate Liquid Stock bottles, and solid amber would have been too dark,” explained Adrian Bird, production and development manager at the Chalgrove Plant. “This translucency combined with the square shape meant that any variation in the thickness of the walls would have affected the color of the product. The preform was designed to ensure consistency across the packs and, once in production, set very tight wall thickness limits.” The 375ml container features a paper label printed by Ormerods and a plastic 63mm twist-off closure from Robinsons Closures. Colored caps and labeling have been used to help differentiate the three product varieties ― beef, chicken, and vegetable. Reduced Salt Stock Granules offer all the flavor of OXO but with 25 percent less salt when compared to the standard product. The granules can be sprinkled onto meat and vegetables before grilling or roasting and can be added to recipes for a fuller flavor. Oxo stock cubes have been used to flavor millions of dishes ever since the product was launched in 1847. OXO sponsored the London Olympics in 1908 and even went with Captain Robert Scott to the South Pole in 1912.
