3G Infrastructure Services signs agreement with NCC AB The two Swedish mobile operators Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone have decided to build and operate a common infrastructure for third generation mobile telephony, UMTS, outside the major urban areas. This will be built and operated by the jointly owned company, 3G Infrastructure Services AB, and will be integrated with the operators' respective infrastructure, currently being built separately by both operators in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Karlskrona. The agreement with NCC covers project management, site acquisition, planning, construction and installation and work has already begun. NCC is to build at least 300 base stations in Sweden and will, until the end of 2003, have an option to build additional base stations. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. "NCC has longstanding experience of the industry and is just the type of supplier we need. We are convinced that we will benefit tremendously from the skills and experience that NCC possesses," says Jan Edhäll, Managing Director of 3G Infrastructure Services AB. "The agreement with 3G Infrastructure Services is yet another step in the direction of realising NCC's vision of becoming leading infrastructure suppliers for 3G mobile telephony networks," says Maged Saleh, Business Unit Manager at NCC Telecom Sweden.
