3G Infrastructure Services signs agreement with Skanova The two Swedish mobile operators Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone have decided to build and operate a common infrastructure for third generation mobile telephony, UMTS, outside the major urban areas. This will be built and operated by the jointly owned company, 3G Infrastructure Services AB, and will be integrated with the operators' respective infrastructure, currently being built separately by both operators in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Karlskrona. 3G Infrastructure Services AB has now signed an agreement with Skanova concerning transmission, that is the connection of cities and base stations within the UMTS network. Both deliveries and installation are due to begin in October 2001 and the agreement is valid for a period of 10 years. "Our task is to construct and operate the UMTS infrastructure. This is a huge and highly complex project and we impose considerable demands on our suppliers. We believe that Skanova possesses the requisite expertise and experience in terms of providing network capacity," says Jan Edhäll, Managing Director of 3G Infrastructure Services AB. "We see this agreement with 3G Infrastructure Services AB as a significant step forward. It also serves as confirmation that our offering was competitive, since there were several other companies submitting tenders at the same time," says Head of Skanova Lars-Gunnar Johansson. When the rollout is completed, 70 per cent of the Swedish population will have access to faster communication via the company's infrastructure, which will be integrated with the operators' respective networks. 3G Infrastructure Services AB is undergoing strong growth and plans to have a staff of 100 by the end of the year. ------------------------------------------------------------ This information was brought to you by Waymaker http://www.waymaker.net The following files are available for download: http://www.waymaker.net/bitonline/2001/10/18/20011018BIT00350/bit0001.doc http://www.waymaker.net/bitonline/2001/10/18/20011018BIT00350/bit0001.pdf
