Bracknell, UK, 24 July 2012 – Diversified technology company 3M addresses vandalism and graffiti issues in the transportation sector with two new overlaminates designed to protect train graphics and surfaces from damage caused by spray painting, felt tip markers and other methods. The high gloss overlaminate version helps enhance and maintain exterior train branding while the matte overlaminate version helps reduce reflections in train interiors.

“Vandalism and graffiti remain a big issue for train operators and they are often fined for graffiti marked carriages,” said Lucy Anderson, Marketing Coordinator, 3M’s Commercial Graphics division. “In response to this, 3M has announced two new, flexible surface protection films that offer the required level of anti-graffiti properties and abrasion resistance.”

Scotchgard Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8993 from 3M is a gloss anti-graffiti rail overlaminate for train exteriors. Its availability in 48-inch, 54-inch and 60-inch widths by 50m means wider graphic panels can be printed to help reduce material wastage, increase roll efficiency and lower production costs.

Scotchgard Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8995-124 is a metallic anti-graffiti overlaminate that answers industry demand for a low reflective, matte finish product for interior train carriages. The film, available in 48-inch sheets, helps reduce the mirror-effect, giving brands peace of mind that their advertising messages can be read clearly and helping train operators to ensure a comfortable interior environment for passengers.

These polyester films are highly durable, ensuring graphics remain in great condition for the duration of a brand campaign or lifetime. They are designed to withstand the harsh solvents that are needed to clean the surface and remove the graffiti. This ensures that the branding image does not get damaged and is maintained throughout the life of the graphic.
