Latest Dates Announced - ILM Level 4 Award in Managing Equality and Diversity in an organisation

8degrees, the national specialist in equality and diversity training, has announced 3 new dates for its highly popular ILM Level 4 Award in Managing Equality and Diversity in an organisation.

The 2 day sessions will be taking place on the following dates and locations:

20-21st November 2013          Rugby

4th-5th December 2013            Reading

14th-15th January 2013            Sunderland

This is a single-unit, taught qualification that is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), the UK's leading management qualification body. Following the two-day taught element of the qualification, participants will be given a work-based assignment to complete, supported by the trainer who will carry out one-to-one tutorials.

With the advent of the Equality Act 2010, more organisations and individuals are becoming aware of their rights, responsibilities and the risks involved in any non-compliance with the Act.  But often it's hard to know where to start.

The Act imposes certain obligations on everyone concerned with the provision of services to the public whether in the private, public or voluntary sectors. Under the Act, the provision of services includes the provision of goods or facilities.

Codes of Practice, recently published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, confirm that service providers will be liable for unlawful acts committed by their employees unless they can demonstrate that they have taken reasonable steps to prevent such acts.  This demonstration may provide a suitable defence.

Employers are more likely to be able to comply with their duties under the Act - and prevent their employees from discriminating against service users or customers - if they can demonstrate the following "reasonable steps":

  • Have developed and communicated a robust equality and diversity policy
  • Have ensured that staff understand the meaning of equality in the context of the policy and
  • Have made staff aware of their legal obligations under the Act

Designed to support the implementation of the reasonable steps detailed above and help demonstrate compliance, our new ILM Level 4 qualification aims to develop:

  • An up to date knowledge of the Equality Act 2010
  • An appreciation of its implications and benefits
  • An understanding of unconscious bias, the links to behaviour and how such biases are the roots of stereotyping, prejudice and ultimately, discrimination in our society.
  • An ability to define your own equality and diversity action plan and implement measures to achieve it
  • An ability to contribute to reducing the risks of possible future litigation

Spaces to attend these courses are still available in very limited supply, and cost just £695.00 + VAT to attend. For more information and to register for the course visit
