Brainwave has won the Somerset Charity of the Year Award. This was part of the 2009 Somerset Business Awards, organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses and designed to recognise and celebrate business success in Somerset. Brainwave was established in 1982 in Bridgwater, Somerset but over the last few years has expanded to include two additional Centres (Witham, Essex and Warrington, Cheshire) and to run outreach clinics in Ireland and Scotland, making it a truly national organisation. The Charity works with families to deliver individual, home based therapy and exercises for children with disabilities and Development Delay helping them reach their full potential. This can be anything from walking to recognising numbers. The Charity looks after a whole range of children with conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Down’s syndrome and Autism. Christine Cryne, Brainwave’s Chief Executive Officer, said “To win the Award we had to demonstrate sound business planning and financial management, delivery of excellent customer service, dedication to supporting and developing our staff and embracing IT to improve our business. We were delighted to win as we are a small charity and an Award like this helps our credibility with donors, on whom we rely - we receive no funding from Government. As it is independently assessed, it really does give us kudos.” Contact: Christine Cryne: 07970 096366 Press information: Jane Adkins, Tel: 01935 813114 or email: jane@aheadforpr.co.uk Editor’s notes 1. On the second day the family are shown how to undertake the exercises, which they then carry out at home, retuning to the Centre every 4-6 months when the exercises are adjusted. 3.
