Thrill seekers head to Devon for the half term ride of their lives!

From challenging water coasters and giant kites to wild walks and time travel Tudor style, Devon has everything for the active and fun seeking family this Whitsun spring half term. The state of the art triple tube water coaster is the only one in the UK which includes special effects, lights and sounds as you negotiate its every twist and turn. Groups of 15 or more will be able to take advantage of the half price ticket offer to mark the launch of Vortex. Also at Crealy at the end of half term families may be tying themselves up in knots as they take part in the Guinness Book of Records attempt to break the record for the ‘largest three legged race’ (Saturday 5 June). This is in association with Families for Children Adoption Agency as part of National Family week 2010. Not far from Crealy Adventure Park is the lovely coastal town of Exmouth which is host to the Exmouth Kite Festival (5 -6 June). Exotic and giant kites will be put through their paces by some of the world’s most renowned kite flyers and display teams at the town’s recreation ground near the River Exe. Make sure you are not late for the special Wonderland Week at Powderham Castle (29 May - 4 June). Step through the looking glass and meet the Mad Hatter or follow the white rabbit’s trail through the wonderful grounds and gardens at Powderham Castle and join in a Wonderland tea party, all dressed up as your favourite Wonderland character. Sessions will be at set times during the day and are included in the admission price. Potwalloping Festival is a three-day community event held over the Bank Holiday weekend. It celebrates the Potwalloping (pebble throwing) tradition which dates back to the 1800s. It is family friendly with street performers, music and arts and crafts. St Nicholas’s priory is a former Benedictine priory that has been faithfully restored to represent the home of a Tudor family, complete with Elizabethan furnishings and staff in period dress. On Friday 4 June there will be a session at the priory looking at herbs and cooking in the Tudor age. Children aged under fifteen who turn up at the aquarium in disguise or camouflaged will get in free. It’s all part of an attempt to discover how the inhabitants of the aquarium use camouflage for their survival.
