Unsuited and Unbooted helps women in business reach the next level in business development
What’s a businesswoman to do when she wants to take her business to the next level? Hiring staff can be a tricky proposition these days and it is not always easy to negotiate your way through the minefield of legislation, health and safety directives and employment contracts. Porter Dodson’s workshop at the brand new event for women in business, Unsuited and Unbooted, being held on 21 May at The Monks Yard, Horton Cross, will provide the answer to these and many other questions in its seminar “Hiring Help and Selling Online – How to take your business to the next level”. Setting up an e-commerce site can seem ridiculously daunting. However Porter Dodson’s Bridget Dickinson and Alison Whittingham will be taking their fictional businesswoman through the processes of registering logos and trade marks, examining how these add real value to a business. The workshop will also cover how to start selling on line, looking at linking with other sites and the thorny issue of data capture. Laura Staples, from the firm’s Employment team, will give practical advice on recruiting and HR. The seminar is just one of a selection of workshops that attendees can choose when booking a place for £45 on www.unsuitedandunbooted.co.uk. Ticket price includes two workshops covering different topics and an opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting or archery, a range of different exhibitors with products and services of interest to women, business clinics run by BusinessLink South West and one to one sessions showing how to set yourself and your business up on online social media like Twitter and Facebook. The day is the brainchild of five business women, each running their own businesses in the South West, who decided that there was a real gap in the market for an event that served the needs of women working in the region. It has been carefully designed so that everyone who attends can extract the maximum benefit. Organisers of the event are Carly Warren, Thoroughbred Print; Rachel Sweet from SweetSkills; Jane Adkins from A Head for PR; Jacqui Yeoell from West Country Galleries and Rebecca Holling from The Monks Yard. In a move away from the typical business dress of smart suit and sensible shoes, attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable attire to increase enjoyment of the activities included in the package (along with lunch!).
