Line’s ships will visit Europe’s most festive Christmas markets in 2023

Rostock, 19 July 2023 As a river cruise operator hailing from Germany, it is only natural that A-ROSA knows the Christmas markets in and around Germany best. The line’s festive sailings have been among the most popular itineraries since their introduction. Each year, from the end of November until late December A-ROSA’s Danube and Rhine fleet make halt in hand-picked European cities with the most beautiful Christmas markets. Bookings for the 2023 festive itineraries made until 31 August will get a saving of 20% off the cruise fare. On top there is the possibility of combining itineraries and securing an additional price reduction of 10%.

The so-called Christmas markets are a long-standing tradition in not only Germany, but other European countries such as Austria and the Netherlands as well. However, German Christmas markets date back to the 14th century. Initially set up as trade fairs, allowing people to stock up on essentials for the winter months, traders soon embraced the opportunity to sell handicraft, knickknacks and toys, which made ideal Christmas gifts. Not long after, hot street food was soon on offer too, to keep patrons warm and enthused amidst the busy time of Christmas shopping – and nothing has changed since. Bratwurst, Germany’s iconic grilled sausage, and Glühwein, a type of mulled wine, are still the quintessential culinary delights of any Germanic Christmas market.

A-ROSA offers 4- to 5-night round-trip itineraries visiting many of such memorable Christmas markets. Departing from Cologne, guests will either sail with A-ROSA SILVA on the Southern Rhine experiencing the markets of cozy cities such as Koblenz, Mainz or Strasbourg – whereas A-ROSA SENA cruises on the Northern Rhine to the Benelux metropolises of Utrecht, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The Danube ships A-ROSA DONNA and A-ROSA FLORA journey from Engelhartszell to festive highlights in destinations such as Linz, Vienna and Bratislava.
