Getting in the Christmas Spirit
Helping the Trussell Trust
A World of Furniture is pleased to be able to help the Trussell Trust again this year by providing vans and manpower for a day.
“We wanted to help the Salisbury charity because they do such a lot of good, both locally and abroad. Christmas is a time of giving and we wanted to give a little something to help less fortunate people in our local area and we hope to spread a bit of Christmas cheer,” says Mark Hotson, owner of A World of Furniture.
Salisbury-based charity The Trussell Trust was founded in 1997 by Carol and Paddy Henderson using a legacy left by Carol’s mother Betty Trussell. The initial aim of the trust was to help children in Bulgaria who were living in squalid conditions but the help soon expanded into the UK after a fund raising event in Salisbury highlighted problems more locally. This led to them coming up with the Foodbank which was launched in 2004. Foodbanks can now be found nationwide, helping people who would otherwise go hungry.
The charity asks people to donate non-perishable foods which are then made up into food boxes for those in need. Delivering the boxes is a mammoth task and all the help they can get is appreciated.
On 23rdDecember, A World of Furniture is donating the capabilities of a fleet of 10 vans and 20 staff to help the Trussell Trust deliver food parcels throughout Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.
“Delivering food parcels during the season of goodwill is a very humbling experience,” says Mark. “It’s nice to be able to take time out of our usual day-to-day work and make an effort to give something to a community that is often overlooked.”
