Army veteran Trent Gierstorf’s commitment to the swine industry, colleagues and his community has been rewarded with an accolade from TechMix and AB Vista.

Gierstorf, who works as team leader of Nurseries at Christensen Farms, was chosen to be the first recipient of an award in recognition of the extensive training he has provided his team in caring for weaned and challenged pigs, his dedication to improving performance and putting others first.

In addition, it was taken into consideration Gierstorf’s 22 years of service in the Army National Guard and his community work, which has included helping in the recovery process after the Iowa floods in 2008 and cooking BBQs for local groups.

TechMix’s Product Development Manager, Denny McKilligan, said: “Trent’s endless commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty – both at work and in the community – meant he was a natural choice to receive this award. He has never asked for recognition, but is truly deserving of praise.”

Gierstorf was presented with a plaque and a barbecue smoker at the Iowa Swine Day. Afterwards he said: “I am humbled to receive this award and am very grateful for the support my family provides. Without their backing I wouldn’t be able to do any of these things.”

The award was created to honor a person who has placed the needs of others before themselves and will be presented annually at the Iowa Swine Day Barbecue.
