Volvo Aero Corporation has signed a Long-Term Support Agreement with UBE Chemical Europe S.A. in Castellón, Spain. The agreement means that Volvo Aero will provide all planned and unplanned maintenance on UBE's LM1600 gas turbine package during a full overhaul life cycle, equating to a period of approximately seven years.

UBE Chemical Europe S.A. uses an LM1600 gas turbine to provide heat and power to their factory in Castellón where a wide array of chemicals are produced. Volvo Aero has maintained the LM1600 gas generator at UBE for a number of years, though not as a prime contractor. This agreement marks Volvo Aero's first role as a prime contractor in Spain. "We are already a prime contractor to several LM1600 users elsewhere in Europe", says Simon Raymond, Sales Manager at Volvo Aero's Engine Services, "and we are thoroughly looking forward to providing support direct to UBE in Spain." Maintenance activities will be coordinated through Volvo Aero's Service Center in Zaragoza, Spain, with support from Engine Services at Volvo Aero's headquarters in Trollhättan, Sweden. "We work hard to build on our reputation as a highly capable and dependable service provider," says Simon Raymond. "As well as low life cycle costs, UBE want peace of mind when it comes to high reliability and availability of their powerplant. These are values that we have in common with all customers and were important factors in UBE’s selection of Volvo Aero". Since the agreement falls within the framework of Volvo Aero’s planned annual volume, it will not result in recruitment of any new personnel. June 29, 2005
