Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is in the final development stages of a new 70ton Volvo hydraulic excavator. This machine will be presented to the worldwide construction industry at the ConExpo 2005 trade fair in Las Vegas, USA in March 2005.

The new Volvo excavator has been engineered in close cooperation with customers from key markets throughout the world. It has been designed for a number of different segments within the construction equipment industry, including civil engineering, heavy construction, building and extraction. The excavator will be shown at ConExpo in two different configurations: one will have a standard boom and arm and the other a mass excavation boom and arm. The primary design and engineering focus during the development of the new 70 ton excavator was on high reliability, high performance and lowest operating costs. The new Volvo excavator will be powered by a Tier 3 Volvo engine using Volvo’s new Advanced Combustion Technology (V-ACT) system. Volvo Construction Equipment will begin production of the 70 ton excavator – the largest in the Volvo CE hydraulic excavator product range – during the last quarter of 2005, for delivery to all markets.
