VOLVO DELIVERS 110 TRUCKS TO CHINA An agreement about deliveries of 110 heavy-duty Volvo trucks to China has been signed by Karl-Erling Trogen, President of Volvo Truck Corporation and Mr Liu Zhenya, President and Chairman of the Board of Shandong Electrical Power Company (SEPCO), one of China's largest companies for production and distribution of electrical power in the province of Shandong. The Volvo trucks, model FM12, will be used for transports of coal from the mines to the power plants in the area. The vehicle combinations will have a total weight of about 70 tons and be in operation throughout the twenty-four hours. The first ten trucks will be delivered this year and the remaining ones during year 2000. "SEPCO" recently started transport activities under private management with the goal to have cost-effective transports of more than one billion ton- kilometres annually. Therefore, advanced logistics management is needed, as well as effective trucks and reliable service. Through the cooperation with Volvo we will have access to all this", says Mr Zhenya. "Volvo Trucks looks very positively upon the cooperation with SEPCO and we are convinced that our FM12 trucks and our service will support SEPCO in its plans to create China's most efficient transport company", states Karl-Erling Trogen.
