VOLVO GLOBAL TRUCKS DELIVERIES, januarY-MAY 2001 Deliveries from Volvo Global Trucks, which comprises Mack Trucks, Inc., Renault V.I. and Volvo Trucks, during the period January-May 2001 amounted to 68 738 units compared to 77 202 in the same period last year, a decrease of 11%. Order intake was down 14%, of which North America was down 30% and Europe 10% compared to the same period last year. "The decline in the North American market now appears to be levelling out. Deliveries from Mack Trucks, through May 2001 were 33% fewer than during the same period last year. They amounted to 11 311 vehicles, of which 457 (499) were medium-duty. Although its sales volume has been affected by the market decline, Mack continued to improve its US market share. Total deliveries for the period January-May 2001 increased by 8% compared to the same period last year. They amounted to 28 157 trucks, of which 13 997 (11 735) were light and medium duty vehicles. The French market remained strong, and deliveries on Eastern European, Middle-Eastern and Northern African markets increased steadily. The total amount of units delivered was 15% fewer than during the same period last year. The situation on the North American market remained difficult. Western European markets are declining somewhat, while most Eastern European markets are showing a steady increase in the demand for heavy trucks. Deliveries in Brazil increased by 53%, totalling 1 911 units.
