Volvo introduces a new medium duty truck - the Volvo FL
VOLVO INTRODUCES A NEW MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK - THE VOLVO FL With the new Volvo FL, which has been developed for city distribution operations, service duties and light construction haulage, Volvo Trucks is taking a major step forward in key areas such as safety and environmental care. The Volvo FL replaces the FL6, which has recorded sales of more than 110,000 trucks in 50 countries. The new Volvo FL shares much of its technology with the award-winning heavier Volvo truck models, featuring for instance the same type of disc brakes, electronic systems, instruments and driver's airbag. From the safety viewpoint, the Volvo FL is thereby equivalent to its heavier stablemates. For instance, the new disc brakes cut stopping distance by 30 percent from a speed of 80 km/h, compared with conventional drum brakes. The new range of engines featuring electronic fuel injection has better environmental properties and meets the new Euro 3 norms. For particularly vulnerable environments, the FL engine can be equipped with a CRT filter, a catalytic converter that cuts exhaust emissions still further. Three power outputs are available: 180, 220 and 250 hp. The Volvo FL is also available in a version powered by natural gas, for even less emissions. The advanced electronic system used in the Volvo FL offers a number of benefits, including greater reliability, faster diagnosis and quicker service. The system also offers a greater individual tailoring of a variety of functions to suit different transport requirements. The new Volvo FL is more fuel-efficient than the range of medium trucks it replaces. This has been achieved through the interaction of several factors, among them improved control of fuel injection, enhanced aerodynamics and lower weight.
