Volvo IT signs agreement with Västra Götaland Region

The Västra Götaland Region is signing a three-year agreement with Volvo IT. As a result of this deal, Volvo IT will assume responsibility for running the region's economy system and the system that handles salaries for the region's 50,000 employees.

This is the first time Volvo IT has taken part in public-sector negotiations. Volvo IT is already responsible for storing all the digital X-rays with associated patient information from the region's hospitals, in collaboration with the medical technology company GE Healthcare.

“This deal represents a breakthrough for our involvement in the public sector. We have a unique business model which results in openness and the cost-effective co-ordination of IT resources,” says Ulf Nilsson, Volvo IT's president and CEO.

The Västra Götaland Region, part of the Swedish public sector, has an annual budget totalling around SEK 37 billion. This money is used for regional development and service within health care, the medical service, dental care, public transport, culture, education, trade and industry and the environment. Some 90 per cent of the region's employees work within the health service.
