The Elektroskandia wholesale company is handing over responsibility for running its business system to Volvo IT. This means that both customers' and suppliers' electronic transactions will pass through Volvo's computers at Torslanda in Göteborg.

Elektroskandia's business system is known as Assist and it is the nucleus of operations in which almost 800 employees link 2,500 suppliers with 13,000 customers. Customers can place orders via the internet in the business system, which handles around one million electronic messages (Electronic Data Interchange) and more or less the same number of fax messages every year.

Volvo IT will also be responsible for operating Elektroskandia's Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish companies' finance systems.

"We chose Volvo IT as a supplier following a detailed analysis and purchasing process in which we found that Volvo IT appears to have a good understanding of its processes and good communication between its different departments. Taken as a whole, we felt that Volvo IT would be able to delivery extremely reliable operations at a reasonable cost," says Karen Kruger, CIO at Elektroskandia.

Elektroskandia is part of the Hagemeyer Group, one of the world's leading electrical wholesalers.
