Volvo Mobility Systems joins Volvo Buses Vehicle diagnostics and traffic information systems are being integrated to provide additional functions, better quality and increased reliability. This is the result of Volvo Mobility Systems being incorporated within Volvo Buses as of October 1. Since 2000, Volvo Mobility Systems (VMS) has developed and sold IT-based information and traffic control systems under the brand name ITS4mobility. The customers are public transport providers and bus operators, primarily in Europe. Virtually all previous sales have related to aftermarket retrofitting of the system in existing public transport vehicles. However, VMS and Volvo Buses have also worked together to link the bus's own functions with information systems. This is now possible with BEA software system as a platform to open entirely new possibilities for transport providers and bus operators to conduct diagnostics and to collect statistical information about the buses in a fleet. "Becoming part of Volvo Buses is a perfectly natural progression. ITS4mobility can now be fully integrated directly in the product development and production stages, leading to the creation of additional application areas, increased reliability and more convenient system operation for the customer", explains Claes Westberg, manager of Volvo Mobility Systems. "This development also allows Volvo Buses to broaden its focus from solely discussing buses to the marketing of overall transport solutions. It extends the horizon and allows us as a company to gain a better understanding of the customer's needs". VMS will continue to work under the name Volvo Mobility Systems in its contacts with customers.
