Volvo’s President and CEO awarded for promoting Swedish engineering industry
Today, May 5, Leif Johansson, President and CEO of the Volvo Group, will receive the Mekanprisma Award at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries in Stockholm. The Mekanprisma Award is a prestigous honor awarded to persons who made significant contributions to the Swedish engineering industry.
There are currently ten Mekanprisma Awards, which are held by Leif Johansson (2009), Lennart Nilsson (2009), Peter Wallenberg (2007), Clas Åke Hedström (2006), Gunnar Randholm (2003), Knut Jacobsson (2002), Anders Scharp (2000), Gunnar L Johansson (1999), His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf (1998) and Björn Svedberg (1994). Gustaf Larsson, one of Volvo’s founders, was awarded the Mekanprisma Award in 1962.
“It is with great humility and gratitude that I become part of a fine club. There is an industrial base, engineering know-how and international expertise in Sweden of which we can be truly proud,” says Leif Johansson.
Leif Johansson received his engineering degree at Chalmers University of Technology in 1977. His first appointment as President was within Husqvarna Motorcyklar, followed by President of Facit. Thereafter, he was appointed President and CEO within Electrolux. Leif Johansson was appointed President and CEO of the Volvo Group in 1997.
