VOLVO TRUCK CORPORATION'S GLOBAL OPERATIONS CERTIFIED TO ISO 9001 Volvo Trucks has received ISO 9001 certification for its entire operations. This confirms that the company's global quality management system meets the requirements of the international standard. This worldwide third party certification is based on 57 separate certificates which were issued for various parts of the organisation around the world over a period of six years. The first was received by the production plants in Skövde and Köping back in November 1993. "This certification highlights the fact that a vital goal has been reached in our aim to create a strong global company that exceeds our customers' expectations. One precondition for reaching this goal is that we maintain the same high quality level for products and services everywhere in the world. Our uniform quality system, which has now received certification, helps secure this goal," says Karl-Erling Trogen, President and CEO of Volvo Trucks. Certification was issued by Lloyds Register (LRQA) which has been the sole supplier of certification for quality and environmental management systems to Volvo Trucks since 1998. "It is very ambitious for a large global company like Volvo Trucks to secure ISO 9001 certification for its entire operations, and to implement it consistently in all its units," comments Bertil Olsson, the Lloyds Register co-ordinator of certification operations in the Nordic and Baltic regions. In 1998, Volvo Trucks received the "Swedish Quality Award" from King Carl XVI Gustav, making this the first company ever to receive this accolade for global operations. The jury committee motivated its decision as follows: "In a large global organisation, the company has managed to get systematic improvement work to successfully permeate a large proportion of its activities. The Volvo Truck Corporation is a role model for quality development in Sweden."
