VOLVO TRUCKS IN CO-OPERATION WITH GERMAN TRAILER MANUFACTURER The Volvo Truck Corporation has entered into a co-operation agreement with the German semi-trailer manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull. As a result of this agreement, truck customers will be able to purchase a complete semi- trailercombination at one and the same retail outlet. Truck customers normally purchase their tractors from truck dealers and their semi-trailers from trailer representatives. Volvo Trucks' agreement with Schmitz Cargobull will make it possible to purchase the complete vehicle combination at one place. There are a number of advantages to this agreement. The technical development and adaptation of interaction between tractor and trailer, when it comes to features like the brakes, will benefit the customer in operation, service and maintenance. Other customer benefits relate to financing services. Taken as a whole, this agreement will therefore set a new standard in terms of customer offers. The agreement does not prevent Schmitz marketing its semi-trailers for use with other truck manufacturers' products, nor does it prevent Volvo including other semi-trailers in its product offers. Schmitz Cargobull, which has four production units, three in Germany and one in the UK, produces some 18,000 semi-trailers every year. Volvo Trucks is Europe's second largest manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks.
