VOLVO TRUCKS RECEIVES AN ORDER FOR 500 TRUCKS FROM IRAN Volvo Trucks has received an order for a total of 500 Volvo FH12 trucks from Iran. This is the first order for the Volvo FH12 from Iran, and it represents a significant shift in technology for the country's transport industry. The trucks will be supplied in so-called CKD or Completely Knocked-Down kits, and they will be assembled in Teheran. "The order shows that customers in this region are prepared to invest in an advanced new model such as the Volvo FH12. We look forward to further boosting our position on this market," comments Roar Isaksen, Senior Vice President and Manager of the International Division at Volvo Trucks. This agreement is the result of the cooperative agreement that Volvo signed earlier this year with Saipa Diesel in Iran on the manufacture of heavy trucks. The aim is to produce 1,500 units a year. Since the early 1970s, Volvo Trucks has supplied more than 40,000 heavy trucks to Iran, giving the company a leading position on this market. In some years, Volvo's supplies to Iran have totalled between 4,000 and 5,000 heavy trucks a year. The new agreement between Volvo Trucks and Saipa Diesel was ratified this February by the Ministry of Industry in Iran. The agreement covers the introduction of the FH12 and NH12 models in Iran, and it also gives Saipa Diesel the possibility of local manufacture of truck components under the supervision of Volvo Trucks.
