Dartmoor: the ideal destination for action-packed, exciting, cultural UK holidays

24/05/13

Covering an area of 368 square miles (954 square kilometres), Dartmoor, in the county of Devon, contains the largest and wildest area of open country in the South of England.

It is famed for its rugged landscape, which includes moorland, farmland, forestry, and reservoirs, as well as towns and villages. Its stunningly beautiful scenery – the setting for the recent Steven Spielberg blockbuster War Horse – is a major attraction for the millions of holidaymakers from across the globe that visit the Moor each year. However, Dartmoor is not just about the spectacular landscape; there’s a lot more to it than that. It’s more than just the famous Dartmoor ponies, the imposing tors, its ancient history or intriguing heritage … although that’s a good start!

To make the most of a visit to Dartmoor, visitors are encouraged to explore the never-ending selection of activities and pursuits the Moor has to offer, creating a holiday full of once-in-a-lifetime experiences that take them right to the heart of the Westcountry’s beautiful countryside.
