Hamburg Süd counts on Acando’s CMS expertise: New websites worldwide based on FirstSpirit

Hamburg Süd, one of the 20 largest container shipping companies in the world, has redesigned its international websites based on the FirstSpirit content management system with the support of Acando GmbH. Hamburg Süd is thereby following its strategy for a global online presence with integrated content and e-commerce services.

Hamburg Süd is a shipping group that offers customized one-source logistics services. To improve its online presence, the group completely reorganized four of its websites and converted to a new system. Since mid-January, these pages are now live: the Hamburg Süd group (www.hamburgsud.com), the Hamburg Süd liner services (www.hamburgsud-line.com), the Rudolf A. Oetker KG (www.rao-shipping.com), the tramping company of the group, as well as the presence of the Brazilian affiliate Aliança (www.alianca.com.br).

Acando, a consulting firm with expertise in CMS and integration, has supported their standing customer in selecting the proper system and developing its websites. Jork Feeken, Group Leader Internet/Intranet at Hamburg Süd, has deemed the project a complete success: “We were able to integrate FirstSpirit into our existing infrastructure flawlessly. Acando supported us reliably and proved to be the right partner at our side. Now we are profiting from simplified content management processes.”

The new system smoothly manages all content centrally and in several languages, enables simple and decentralized content management, and integrates the company’s own e-commerce services. The technological platform FirstSpirit meets the demands of content management to a very high degree. To integrate the e-commerce backend, Acando paired the content management framework of FirstSpirit directly to the application server and used standard frameworks such as Java Server Faces. “The solution developed makes a clear division between technology, content, and e-commerce services. This makes it easy to use and fit for the future when the time comes to develop further technologically,” explains Klaas Klaassen, Project Manager at Acando.

For its next step, Hamburg Süd plans to establish a global intranet based on the new platform.
