Action for Healthy Kids Adds New Members to Board of Directors

(February 23, 2015)  Action for Healthy Kids announces the addition of four new members to its Board of Directors. The new members join an esteemed group of individuals who work across a variety of fields related to childhood obesity and education and who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of students and schools nationwide.

The new members of the board are:

  • Rich Abend, Managing Director, Scout Wellness, a division of Horizon Media. Mr. Abend is a twenty-year sports, health, fitness and wellness executive. Prior to joining Horizon Media in New York, he served as Vice President of Integrated Sales at the Active Network, where he launched Active’s Workplace Wellness platform, and was a partner with The Squires Sports Group, a sports and entertainment marketing consulting firm.
  • Anastasia Fischer, MD, FACSM, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Fischer is a member of the Division of Sports Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine, where she has been appointed fellow.
  • Tori Kaplan, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, CSX Corporation. Under Ms. Kaplan’s leadership, CSX partners with national and regional nonprofit organizations and other corporations focused on the wellbeing of local communities. Ms. Kaplan also leads the development and execution of CSX’s customized health and wellness programs. CSX is an AFHK corporate partner.
  • Indra Mehrotra, MS, RD, Director of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Cargill Inc. In this capacity she leads development and implementation of scientific and regulatory strategies that support product innovation to advance Cargill’s businesses globally. Prior to joining Cargill, she served as a Director within the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition at General Mills. Ms. Mehrotra has over 25 years of experience as a nutrition, health and regulatory professional. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Institute of Food Technologists and the American Society for Nutrition.
