ADC to Provide Cuda 12000 IP Access Switch for Callahan's German Cable Network Infrastructure MINNEAPOLIS - October 10, 2001 - ADC (Nasdaq: ADCT; www.adc.com), a leading global supplier of fiber optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multi-service networks, today announced that Callahan Associates has selected a consortium of suppliers, which includes ADC, for the upgrade of its cable network in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. ADC is supplying the Cuda 12000 Cable Modem Termination System and FastFlow Broadband Provisioning Manager (BPM) for the extensive rollout. The upgrade for Kabel Baden-Wuerttemberg (Kabel-BW), a Callahan operation, will begin at the beginning of 2002 and continue through 2004, potentially supplying more than 2.5 million homes with advanced communications services such as high-speed Internet access, high- performance video, Internet Protocol (IP) services, voice telephony, digital TV programming and interactive TV. Recognized Expertise and Performance This is the second major deployment project in Germany in which ADC is the CMTS supplier for DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 1.1 services. It demonstrates ADC's market leadership position and capabilities in offering the best of breed products, technical expertise and local operational personnel for a wide-scale IP telephony and data network project. Kabel-BW's ambitious network deployment plans demand a CMTS that is field-proven in offering carrier-class reliability and Quality of Service (QoS) as well as scalable and reliable voice/data provisioning; requirements that can be found with the Cuda 12000 and FastFlow Broadband Provisioning Manager. According to a recent Dell'Oro Group report, the Cuda 12000 had 14 percent market share in the cable access concentrator market during the second quarter of 2001 and was the fastest-growing product in this segment, gaining seven share points from the previous quarter. ADC is currently supplying the Cuda 12000 and FastFlow BPM for a network upgrade by Kabel-NRW, another Callahan operation. With deployment of this network already underway, ADC's Cuda 12000 is the first CMTS to support converged primary line IP telephony and data service. "We are committed to making cable operators such as Callahan successful, so we brought together our subject matter experts and built a dedicated lab for the Kabel-NRW project," said Dave Paolino, vice president and general manager of ADC's IP Cable Division. "We are excited and proud that Callahan recognized this commitment by choosing ADC as part of the consortium to upgrade the Kabel Baden-Wuerttemberg network." "We look forward to continuing our working relationship with ADC in Baden-Wuerttemberg, based on their progress to date in Kabel-NRW and their capability to fulfill our ambitious plans," said David Colley, chief executive officer of Callahan in Germany.
