As the country’s Citizens Advice Service came together to celebrate 70 years of outstanding service, a former north east resident sky-dived 15,000 feet to raise funds for DAWN CAB. Over 70 employees from the Citizens Advice Service across the country have joined together for the special charity tandem skydive. Susan Boalch, a HR Business Partner in Leeds, who is originally from the north east raised £500 in aid of the Morpeth-based Bureau. Susan, who has previously completed a skydive in New Zealand, said she wanted to give something back to the north east. She said: “I’m really pleased that I had the opportunity to do another skydive and help raise funds for the CAB, it was an amazing experience. “Services offered by Citizens Advice up and down the country have become invaluable to so many people so I’m delighted to be able to help ensure these can continue while also celebrating such a milestone for the charity. “The north east is a wonderful place to live so I jumped at the chance to be able to give something back to the area by supporting one of its bureaux.” The bureau is run by Northumberland-based social enterprise DAWN Advice. Liz Chadwick, Chief Executive of DAWN Advice, said: “We were delighted that Susan chose to raise funds for DAWN CAB. It does fantastic work in the local community and it’s wonderful that she is helping to support it. The CAB relies heavily on donations such as this to help continue its outstanding work and we are very grateful for Susan’s contribution.” DAWN Advice took over the operation of the CAB, formerly known as Morpeth Citizens Advice Bureau, last summer after it was faced with closure as annual running costs rocketed to £70,000. The Citizens Advice service started life as an emergency war service on 4 September 1939: war was declared on 3 September 1939 and the first 200 bureaux opened the very next day. From 4 September 2009 to the end of August 2010 the Citizens Advice will be celebrating 70 years of service.
