Everybody needs good neighbours
Neighbourhood improvement organisation, Neighbourhoods NW has been working closely with leading qualification provider NCFE to provide residents and neighbourhood workers in the North West national recognition for their efforts in helping to improve local communities.
Residents and neighbourhood workers in the North West have gained national recognition for their efforts in helping to improve local communities, thanks to leading national awarding organisation, NCFE. The Level 2 qualification in Working in Neighbourhoods (WIN) is a unique qualification that has been specifically developed by neighbourhood improvement organisation, Neighbourhoods NW working in conjunction with NCFE. Those passionate about improving their locality can now gain a nationally-recognised qualification in this field that provides a foundation of skills and the essential knowledge required for anyone working within their community. The programme, which consists of 10 units delivered over five days, is open to those in paid or voluntary employment and is aimed at residents and front-line workers who wish to take a more active role in the neighbourhood decision making process. NCFE chief executive David Grailey said: “NCFE recognises that there is more to being a good neighbour than a simple hello and a wave as you step into your car; it is about working together to achieve more and improve your local surroundings. “We’re very pleased to have been able to develop this qualification with Neighbourhoods NW, to help build people’s skills in these important matters and enable them to successfully influence key neighbourhood decisions.” Rochdale is one community in the North West where the qualification has been particularly well-received, and Neighbourhoods NW recently celebrated residents’ achievements at its Working In Neighbourhoods presentation. David Broome, Principal Neighbourhood Renewal Officer, Rochdale MBC, said: “Seeing the pride and genuine support for the people gaining the certificates was a real honour to witness. The skills gained, and the relationships built between staff and the community have formed strong foundations for the future of Lower Falinge.” Neighbourhoods NW is the gateway for access to information, training and support for those active in neighbourhood improvement in the North West. It strategically influences policy and practice locally, regionally and nationally to ensure a neighbourhood focus is maintained by governance bodies and service delivery agencies. Neighbourhoods NW aims to see improved neighbourhood working and increased community empowerment in order to achieve more resilient and sustainable neighbourhoods in the North West.
