Fundraising lawyers go the distance
A Glasgow-based brain injury charity has run into good fortune as it received a welcome cash boost thanks to the dynamic efforts of a group of local lawyers and their colleagues. Tracey Brown, Rashmi Singh, Lorraine Smart and Andrea Logan of national law firm Irwin Mitchell all took part in last week’s Glasgow 2010 Women’s 10k Race. They were running for brain injury association Headway Glasgow and successfully raised £800. Tracey Brown, Clinical Negligence lawyer at the Glasgow office of Irwin Mitchell, said: “The whole atmosphere of the day was excellent and the crowd were superb - we really felt buoyed by the public support as we ran round the course. “We all made it the whole way round without stopping once – the first time Andrea and I have managed this – so we are all really proud of our personal achievements. However the real sense of accomplishment came from seeing how much money we had raised for Headway Glasgow. “People have been so generous and really dug deep to sponsor our efforts. When we see clients coming in with acquired brain injuries it drives home how important the work of an organisation like Headway Glasgow is. All the hard work and blisters were worth it to be able to contribute to such a brilliant cause.” Simon Glen, Project Coordinator at Headway Glasgow, said: "The team at Irwin Mitchell have put in a great effort with running the Glasgow Women's 10k, and in the fundraising which we know from experience can be just as much of a challenge. We thank them all for their hard work which will help Headway Glasgow continue to provide information, support and services for people with brain injury and their carers.” Andrea, Rashmi and Andrea completed the race in one hour 10 minutes, and Lorraine ran the 10k in 59 minutes. Headway is the national charity that works to improve life after brain injury. Through its network of more than 110 groups and branches across the UK, it provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields
