Bergen Energi UK has saved leading air navigation services provider NATS more than £1.5m thanks to a hugely successful electricity procurement strategy. The independent energy brokers supported NATS with its energy supplier tender negotiations and created a bespoke risk-management solution to combat volatility in wholesale electricity prices. Bergen Energi UK has developed a robust hedging strategy and portfolio management scheme – these best-practice plans delivered excellent portfolio performance and Bergen Energi UK’s forward buying and price optimisation saved NATS around £1.7m. Bergen Energi UK Vice President Richard Southgate said: “The savings delivered for NATS are a terrific achievement, particularly given the volatile nature of the electricity market. “Our assistance with their energy tender allowed NATS to secure the best possible supply contract product and terms which provide us with the flexibility to buy electricity in non consecutive tranches. This has led to immediate savings in the market and sets the groundwork for further best-value procurement over the coming years. “The success comes as a result of the wealth of energy experience found within Bergen Energi UK and being able to use our comprehensive and continuous market analyses which allow us to project the direction of prices with confidence.” NATS Head of Facilities Management Sean Allen said: “We have a unique set of energy requirements which Bergen Energi UK analysed and as a result developed a strategy specific to our needs which has been extremely valuable for us. “Bergen Energi UK’s expertise in buying and selling at the optimum time has made the electricity purchasing process much more straightforward for us and resulted in reducing our electricity spend significantly. “We look forward to continuing to benefit from Bergen Energi UK’s support and are hopeful of making further savings thanks to their ability to assess the long-term outlook of the market.” NATS handled 2.2 million flights in 2009, covering the UK and eastern North Atlantic, that carried more than 200 million passengers safely through some of the busiest and most complex airspace in the world. It provides air traffic control services at 15 of the nation's major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. -ENDS- Issued on behalf of Bergen Energi UK by Adessi For more information contact Beth Leonard at Adessi on Tel: +44 (0) 113 256 9999 Fax: +44 (0) 113 256 9989 Email: beth.leonard@adessi.co.uk Notes to Editors: • Bergen Energi UK based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, is one of the UK’s leading energy service providers.
