ADMIRE ENTERTAINMENT INC: A WOMEN OWNED AND OPERATED TALENT AGENCY
-REPRESENTING “LIFE SKILLS” SPEAKERS AND ARTISTS THAT INFLUENCE, EDUCATE AND ENTERTAIN-
(April 27th, 2011) Admire Entertainment Inc., a women-owned and operated talent agency/speaker’s bureau, represents cutting-edge entertainers and lecturers that focus on social, multicultural, financial, and health issues facing many Americans today, including bullying, racism, anti-Semitism censorship, financial debt and substance abuse. They have become the “go to” agency for colleges and corporations looking to creatively enhance diversity initiatives.
Barbara Meyer, a former New Line Cinema agent, started the company 28-years ago with just one client, Playfair, a team-building college orientation program celebrating diversity in an atmosphere of non-competitive play.
“We were very fortunate to get Playfair as our first client because it guaranteed the company a substantial amount of bookings per year,” said Meyer.
“This allowed me to add a former female colleague to work with me and we secured filmmaker, John Waters to our client roster. Waters presents a one-man show on diversity and pop culture.
Over the years, she has added several additional female staff members, including Linda Sherman in 1991, who helped develop and expand the comedy division.
Sherman’s experience in working with major comedy acts like, Paula Poundstone, Jay Mohr, Dennis Leary, Jeannine Garafolo, Louis C.K, Sara Silverman and Paula Poundstone enabled Admire Entertainment to become a leader in comedy while at the same time winning numerous awards for representing cutting-edge multicultural and diversity-themed lecturers and known personalities. Their roster includes The Anti Defamation League spokesperson and Autobiography of a Former Skinhead author, Frank Meeink, who speaks to corporations and colleges about his journey from hatred to tolerance, MAD Magazine senior editor, Joe Raiola, who presents a satirist’s look at the First Amendment and censorship, “sexpert” Dr. Ruth Westheimer, financial expert and debt consultant to college students, Peter Bielagus and NBC’s Last Comic Standing and LOGO regular, ANT, who speaks to college and high school students about bullying, homophobia, suicide, substance abuse and self-acceptance.
“I work with Barbara because she is like a ‘Jewish earth mother,” said ANT. She and her female staff offer the kind of personal attention and care that I have never found at another agency,” he added.
Nurturing and helping mold clients’ presentations has been a key to her and their success. When comedian, Bernie McGrenahan, asked Meyer to represent him in 1995, she asked him about his life. What transpired was a collaboration that helped McGrenahan become the #1 Alcohol Awareness speaker for colleges and military personnel for the past fifteen years.
Meyer takes pride in the fact that her agency has a hand in helping educate and influence the perceptions of young people as they go out into the world.
“In order for me to spend the amount of time I do promoting and selling our talent and speakers, I have to have a personal belief in what messages they are sending out into the world.”
