The UK’s largest hirer of light truck mounted powered access, Smart Platform Rental Ltd, has expanded its national network of hire centres to include the recently opened Dartford branch. As with other Smart centre’s it’s strategically located; Crossways Business Park is only 2 minutes’ drive Junction 1 of the M25, offering easy access to south London, Kent and Essex. The site compliments the Hemel Hempstead branch that serves north London and the Homes Counties. For more northerly based work Smart has sites in both Sutton Coldfield, serving the Midlands, and also Manchester supporting the North West.
The hire centre was conceived in response to the growing demand by a large proportion of Smart’s client base that needed a location that was local to Essex, Kent and south London contracts. The branch runs a fleet of truck mount, van mount and tracked access platforms; the fleet mix was developed in consultation with customer and prospect requirements. ‘We pride ourselves on having a wide choice of platforms, a very low average platform age and a very high model consistency’, stated Guy Willett; Smart’s Commercial Director.
Smart pioneered the hire of self drive truck mounted aerial platforms in the UK with clients appreciating the benefits of being able to work at height on their terms. ‘We pioneered self-drive powered access rental in the UK over 10 years ago; proving that a small 3.5 tonne truck mount that could go up to a 20m working height was what many contractors had been desperately wanting. Hitting multiple sites on the one hire, spot hiring sometimes just for a day, being able to drive on a standard car licence and not having to pay the high delivery/collection costs for self-propelled kit or the relatively expensive rates for an operated truck mount made perfect sense to them’ said Willett.
The centre also caters for Smart’s latest training academy which specialises in work at height courses. ‘Training has proven to be an extremely successful additional service that we offer. As with all of our sites the London East branch can offer IPAF training on self-propelled boom and scissor lifts as well as our vehicle mounts. We also offer PASMA accredited portable tower training and even ladder training for clients who don’t use powered access. So if you work at height then one way or another we’re confident we can help you’ added Willett.
