Advantech Launches AIMB-242 Mini-ITX Featuring High Computing and Graphic Performance

April 25, 2017, Munich –Advantech, a leading embedded computing solution provider, today announced the release of its new high-end industrial Mini-ITX motherboard line. AIMB-242 is based on the Intel® QM170/CM236 chipset and the latest 6th generation Intel® Core™ I & Xeon E3 processors, supporting non-ECC & ECC memory capacities (only for WG2 sku) up to 32GB. AIMB-242 uses DDR4 2133MHz memory and comes bundled with Advantech’s value-added WISE-PaaS/RMM software. Providing powerful CPU computing and high graphic performance with enhanced reliability, AIMB-242 is an ideal solution for high-end applications such as medical devices, media, gaming, and testing equipment.
Abundant High-Speed I/O Connectivity for Flexible Application
AIMB-242 Mini-ITX comes with multiple high-speed I/O connectivity including: dual GbE LAN ports (Intel I219LM + I211AT), 8 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, and 2 x SATAIII. In addition, it offers abundant expansion slots including 1 x PCIe x16, 1 x M.2 (B key for SSD & 3G/4G), 1 x full-size MiniPCIe (with mSATA support) and 1 x half-size MiniPCIe—for modular add-on cards. It also supports 8-bit digital programmable I/O, a dual channel 6W audio amplifier and 2 x COM (1 RS-232 & 1 RS-232/422/485 via BIOS selection). Users who wish to connect to devices without additional external power supplies, and those needing reliable data transfers over long distances will benefit. These features make AIMB-242 a perfect fit for a wide range of embedded applications.
Excellent Graphics for Triple Displays and Strict ESD Protection & Certification
Compared with the previous platform, there is a 10% additional CPU performance and up to 50% better 3D graphics. AIMB-242 supports quad/dual core processors and integrates powerful GT4e (with Iris Pro™ graphics support) only for WG2 sku) & GT2 graphics, delivering blazing-fast media processing. For display options, AIMB-242 offers two DP++, one HDMI 2.0 port, and a dual-channel LVDs(eDP) port for triple/dual displays with 4K2K support for DP/HDMI/eDP, which is ideal for those applications such as medical ultrasound or gaming applications which require high graphics performance and high image resolution output.
In addition, AIMB-242 is designed to have enhanced ESD protection which passes ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) level 4 (contact 8kv and air 15kv) tests. ESD level 4 design offers better protection in sensitive environments, which is crucial for high end medical or healthcare applications.
Built-in Intelligent Remote Management and Value-Added Software Support
AIMB-242 Mini-ITX bundles with Advantech’s exclusive IoT WISE-PaaS/RMM software, which is a smart software that constantly monitors the health of multiple devices and sends out alarm notifications via e-mails and SMS messages if faults occur. It also provides remote device management and system recovery powered by Acronis, and system protection powered by McAfee to ensure totally reliable operation.
