Advansia, part of AFRY, has carried out the project management for the 2020park which is an urban district in Stavanger, Norway. The projected has achieved the highest BREEAM Communities Score in the world and it is also the first project in Norway to receive the certification.

2020park is a profiled new urban district in Stavanger, under development, offering a broad range of retail, cafés, public services, industry, offices and housing. A sub-area within 2020park has been certified BREEAM Communities Outstanding, which is the highest level. Only two other projects in the world have achieved this level in the past, both with scores below 90%. With 93% in goal achievement, 2020park is now number one in the international ranking.

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Communities is a way to improve, measure and certify social, environmental and economic sustainability in large-scale development plans by integrating sustainable design into the planning process.

“We have always had strong ambitions within sustainability and BREEAM Communities has been a good tool for systematising and realising our ambitions. With a holistic approach and a high level of shared use of premises and services, this becomes an urban area with a broader and more exciting service offering. We want to create a vibrant neighbourhood that engages the community now and in the future,” says Monica Runestad, CEO of 2020park AS.

Advansia, a part of AFRY, has acted as project manager for the 2020park BREEAM certification with Golder, DARK architects, Sweco, Asplan Viak and Prosjektil as part of the team.

“We are really proud to receive this recognition! This has required a team effort, strong commitment and tight coordination. By making a choice to certify the site development with BREEAM Community, the developer gets a fully documented process that confirms the sustainable value of the project. It is an actual stamp of quality that the developer has prepared concrete measures and solutions within sustainability,” says Dinah Laland, Regional Manager at Advansia.
